Rural architecture

The 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century were characterised by intense building development; for this reason, we can come across many diverse historic buildings, including buildings of wooden architecture, in the territory of Masovia. A few thousand objects of this kind have survived, including urban and rural houses, outbuildings and utility buildings, such as granaries, barns or the last wooden windmills. The Masovian Trail of Tradition allows us to rediscover and enhance the richness of this landscape by presenting historic wooden buildings situated in rural and small-town areas.

Architektura wiejska

The trail abounds in sacred buildings from almost all districts of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship. Each church has its own history. Sometimes it is connected with interior furnishings, sometimes it refers to the life of a saint patron or founder. It may also happen that the most interesting element of the centuries-long history of the temple is its renovation and discoveries resulting from conservation works.

We hope that the presented examples of old buildings will encourage you to visit these interesting places and to begin your own search.
